UCT girls’ soccer set to commence with preliminary round games Sept. 29; Cranford is the 3rd seed

Westfield, which last won the championship outright 15 years ago, is the top seed for the 36th annual girls’ soccer Union County Tournament.
The last three times the Blue Devils were crowned champs they shared the title with Scotch Plains in 2012 and 2006 and with Oak Knoll in 2002.
Westfield has won the most championships with 19, including the first 12 (all outright) from 1981 to 1992 and 15 (all outright) of the first 16 from 1981-1996.
Scotch Plains has won the second most titles with 10 – all coming in the past 11 seasons. The Raiders have won eight of those championships outright.
Scotch Plains is the six-time defending champion, with one of those titles shared with Westfield in 2012. The first UCT crown Scotch Plains shared came in 2006, also with Westfield.
Cranford, which last won the crown for the second time in 2009, is the third seed.
Oak Knoll, which has won two titles including its only one outright in 2003, is the fourth seed.
Preliminary round games are scheduled to be played Sept. 29.
First round games are to be completed by Oct. 1 and second round games must be completed by Oct. 8. All of those matches will be played at the higher seeds.
The quarterfinals are scheduled to be played at the higher seeds on Oct. 15.
The semifinals are set to be played at Johnson High School’s Nolan Field in Clark on Oct. 21 and the final at Kean University’s Alumni Stadium in Union on Oct. 28.
